Mark Fischer
Managing Shareholder
Business, Technology & Commercial Litigation
Mark is the Managing Shareholder of YMFZ Law and has been a key part of the firm since shortly after its founding in 1990. With more than 30 years of legal experience, Mark focuses his practice on business law, complex commercial contracting, and high-stakes litigation. His work spans industries, but he is particularly recognized for his expertise in technology transactions, financial services, and healthcare contracting.
Mark regularly advises large corporations on structuring and negotiating technology agreements, including those related to healthcare benefits platforms, financial data services, and SaaS (Software-as-a-Service) solutions. These projects often involve multiple parties—developers, data vendors, and subject matter experts—and require careful attention to regulatory frameworks, IP ownership, and data-sharing arrangements.
In the financial services sector, Mark counsels institutions on corporate and commercial finance, custody services, and institutional trust arrangements. His deep understanding of business operations allows him to deliver legal strategies that align with both regulatory requirements and commercial goals.
Mark also serves as trusted counsel to a broad range of small and mid-sized businesses across the Pittsburgh region, advising on:
- Business formation and sales
- Commercial contract negotiation
- Real estate transactions
- Professional consulting agreements
- Trademark and copyright law
- Software licensing
- Employment and non-compete agreements
- Business and property disputes
Many of these clients have partnered with Mark for decades, valuing his practical guidance and long-term legal perspective.
In addition to his corporate practice, Mark leads the firm’s oil and gas group, which does title work, litigation, and transactions. He recently prevailed in a significant case before the Ohio Supreme Court—Fonzi v. Brown, 169 Ohio St.3d 70 (2022)—a decision clarifying when severed oil and gas rights may be deemed abandoned and revert to surface owners.
